Spectacular Discipline, 2016-2020
The project represents documentation of the manifestation of disciplinary power performed through soldiers and a maschine. Video piece consists of real footage of soldiers, years of observation of a heterotopic island in the suburbs of Minsk. It is a personal archive of a training process from a military base focused on a drill to perform on an annual national parade. Belarus is an authoritarian country and serving in the army is mandatory. People on the video are not necessarily having fun.
The rotating rifle setup rotates the rifle with tenacity. Goes through ups and downs. Is it as spectacular as soldiers struggle? Doubtful.
This competition was doomed to doubt from the start.
